Airspeed Oxford 1 c/n 3083 ex V3388

Initially ordered under Contract No: B.55346/39 and built by de Havilland Aircraft Co Ltd at Hatfield with RAF serial V3388. Taken on charge 30.11.40 by 15 MU before any test flying and moved to Broxbourne for storage with wings and engines not fitted. Re-assembled on site by Marshalls of Cambridge team during 6.42 and transferred 24.9.62 to 8 MU Little Rissington. Recorded on overhaul with Portsmouth, Southsea and IoW Aviation in late 1962 and then re-delivered 25.1.43 to 15 MU Wroughton. SOC and Sold 9.5.46 and Regd as G-AHTW 6.6.46 (CofR No: 10342/1) to Boulton Paul Aircraft Ltd., Wolverhampton. CofA No: 7874 issued 19.6.46. Used for general company communications business. CofA expired 12.60 and passed into care of Wolverhampton Aero Club. Cld 30.12.63 & Re-Regd 29.1.64 (CofR No: R812/2) to Skyfame Ltd. although not flown again until ferried 2.64 from Wolverhampton to Elstree for re-painting and then delivered 25.3.64 to Staverton. Originally intended to re-paint it as K6069 to represent an aircraft flown by the elder brother of Peter Thomas. Actually repainted as V3388. Transferred to IWM Duxford 1978. Removed from public display late 2004 for restoration and repainting for eventual exhibition in new AirSpace hangar.
