Built at Hatfield as a Srs 2 and Regd 14.12.48 to the Ministry of Civil Aviation and handed over 18.1.49. Variously Re-Regd over the years to Ministry of Transport & Civil Aviation, Board of Trade, Dept of Trade & Industry and finally Civil Aviation Authority in 4.72 and operated by the Civil Aviation Flying Unit. Converted to Srs 2B and latterly Srs 6. The aircraft was used throughout its entire flying life in the specialist role of aircrew testing, aircraft navigational aid testing, and photography. Finally WFU at Stansted 14.11.72 after flying nearly 11,000 hours. Originally donated to the IWM. However in 6.84 it was transferred to Duxford Aviation Society in exvhange for a SAAB Draaken which had previously been donated, but did not fit with the predominantly civil aircraft collection policy of DAS.
