Built by AV.Roe & Co Ltd at Newton Heath, Manchester with serial N4877 and taken on charge 17.11.38. To 26 MU 2.12.38 for general ferry work. To No 2 Ferry Pilots’ Pool, Filton 4.2.39. To No 3 FPP, White Waltham 2.5.40. Unit re-numbered No 1 FPP 11.40. Suffered a flying accident 19.3.41 and repaired by Marshalls Flying School, Cambridge, returning to White Waltham 4.1.42. To Western Airways. Weston-super-Mare 9.45 for major inspection. To Station Flight Watchfield 5.4.46. An accident on 8.5.47 required transfer to 48 MU Hawarden and then to Avro for repair 2.48. To 23 MU Aldergrove 13.10.48. To Watchfield again 16.3.49. To 5 MU Kemble 14.3.50 for disposal. Sold to Air Navigation & Trading Co Ltd., Squires Gate to whom Regd 20.7.50 (CofR No: 15058/1) as G-AMDA. CofA issued 14.10.53. Cld 25.7.55 & Re-Regd 30.7.55 (CofR No: R1603/2) to Derby Aviation Ltd., Burnaston for survey duties on behalf of The Nuffield Foundation and Canadian Aero Service Ltd. Converted at Burnaston with recording gear in cabin and facilities for towing a magnetometer. To London School of Flying (part of the Derby Aviation group, so no formal Re-Regn was required), Elstree in 1961 for general multi-engine training. CofA expired 12.62. Cld 30.8.63 but not Re-Regd until 22.11.63 (CofR No: R1603/3) to Skyfame Ltd. having been delivered to Staverton 31.8.63 on a ferry permit Repainted in camouflage and fuselage Code VX-F (but no serial) to represent an aircraft from 206 (GR) Sqdn, Coastal Command at Bircham Newton which attacked and destroyed a pair of Heinkel 115s in the North Sea during 1940. Initially the intention was to use an unused serial K8741. With the closure of the Skyfame Museum in 1978 the Anson was moved to Duxford.. CofR formally Cld 9.9.81. Displayed with serial N4877 and Code VX-F. Removed from main display in 2000 and totally stripped down in Hangar 5 for slow rebuild. By the middle of 2003 the restoration was complete and returned to public display with fuselage Code MK-V and original serial N4877.
