The L39 was the successor to the L-29 Delfin and prototype f/f 4.11.68 eventually entering full-scale production in 1972. Type served with Soviet, Czech & East German forces in the Warsaw Pact era. Later examples sold to Afghanistan, Bulgaria, Chad, Estonia, Iraq, Kyrghyzstan, Libya & Romania. Three main variants are the L39C 2-seat trainer, L-39ZA an armed weapons trainer and the L-39ZO as a close-support/ground-attack variant.


This example originally built in 1982 by Aero, Vodochody, Czechoslovakia as L-39ZA for Romanian AF with serial 136. Sold off and Re-Regd in USA as N404ZA. Shipped to UK and arrived Duxford 4.04. Re-Regd 4.6.04 as G-CCWB to Freespirit Charters Ltd.
